Discreet drug-sniffing dogs make house calls

" ... The annual high school ratings issue, a prominent New Jersey magazine has an advertisement for drug sniffing dogs. Maybe that's just a coincidence?

For a fee, this company will bring a dog to your house and search for drugs.

It's "discreet, affordable and confidential home drug detection by certified dogs and professional handlers."

The service is marketed to "caring parents and others who need to know."

What happens if the pooch during the visit "identifies a scent"? Well, what you do with what you know is up to you. The company's web site says "the handler will provide you with resources for dealing with the findings." ...

A Day In The Country

It had been a while, years or more, since we traveled west on Route 80 to Route 15 and Route 206 past the exit for the Ogdensburg mine.

This was our old route to Lake Wallenpaupack and who can remember the last time we were up there for anything? Somehow the former hunting cabin built in the 1930s can't compare with room service in a hotel with air conditioning and room service.

Inheriting Ma's job

"For years I've been doing my mom's job. It paid the same for her as it does for me. Some times you find what you're looking for and that's when the disappointment starts.

Who knew reading the obituaries every day could be such a chore? One person lives to 107, another to 77. A warehouse worker is my age.

As I scan three pages, I notice one resident is 43, another resident is 46. A teacher is 44, and a student is 16. Others fall into other eras...."

Maybe I should ...

"Posted by crazyjoef on 08/12/08 at 9:06AM
You should move back to Belleville First. Next you should get your facts right. back in the day the D.A.V. gave that land to Belleville if you lived here you might know what goes on. Do what you do best go write a new book"

Dear Joe,

That's not such a crazy idea. Maybe, after I finish all these poetry books, I'll write a screenplay about Belleville politics. Will you be wearing a white hat or a black hat?

I've heard that writers have the last word. We shall see, shan't we?

Keep writing.

Chop trees, build memorial park

The north Jersey town where I grew up has always aired its political laundry on a clothesline in the town square. Well, if they had a town square, that's where the clothesline would be.

People from miles around knew about my little town from its word-of-mouth reputation long before that TV-mob show was set there, or the Jersey Boys hit Broadway.

It won't be long before the rest of the world learns of Belleville, the little town in north Jersey that cut down trees on a public space to build a memorial garden.

500Kin365.org, was created with the help of Katie Reider's loyal fans to reconnect and introduce 500,000 people to Katie Reider, her music and her story over the next year.

Help us continue to spread her music over the next year by downloading "katie's Voice" (9 original songs written and performed by Katie Reider over the last 10 years) for a $1.00 donation to her cause and linking up ONE other person to www.500Kin365.org.

What to do with those old VHS tapes

"Our VCR sits like a red-headed stepchild next to our desktop DVR box and DVD player. It's been more than a year since we switched the red, yellow and white wires feeding into the TV to the FiOS box. While the change hasn't been a rose garden, the old faithful tape player has gathered dust bunnies.

Behind the cellar door, we've got seven boxes of time-shift viewing VHS tapes that if they were converted to DVD, they would fill less than one box. That would free up more room for our latest adventure, whatever that may be once we have more room for it.... "

FiOS rids house of annoying shopping channels

"She blames me. I blame the dog. The dog blames the baby squirrel running around the basement rafters in the middle of the night.

Well, it had to be one of us who deleted all the home shopping channels, and only the home shopping channels, from the hundreds and hundreds we get on our fiber optics TV.

My wife figured I came down in the middle of the night, grabbed the remote, quietly turned on the TV and surreptitiously deleted half her TV shopping channels. That would include two of the four channels in 130s and the four in the 540s. ..."

The Northern New Jersy Channel Lineup changed at the end of July ... and despite having more and more FiOs channels to view, or delete if you don't have HD, the shopping channels continue to appear and disappear from our Favorites.
