Girls in the Freshman Dorm!

What to take to the freshman dorm

It's been quite a while since we packed up our daughter's stuff and sent her off to her freshman year at university. Fortunately, other people have found the following list helpful, if not something with all the answers, helpful is good.

Chasing the mosquito man

"I saw the greatest minds of my dead end street running into the blue mist of the sweet-smelling cloud behind the Essex County Mosquito Man's Jeep.

Summer in the 1960s, and the living was good.

Sticky fly paper hung over the Maytag wringer next to the kitchen sink. Melmac cups were neatly stored on the yellow contact paper on the shelves behind the glass doors. Sometimes, you'd bug Ma while she was cooking and get to eat a raw hot dog. It was just like rolled baloney from Prosperi's around the corner store ..."

Where was that nudist camp?

The map showed a creek off to the west and we headed through a farmer's field. We got to the river and although it wasn't a huge wide river, it might as well have been. And anyway, none of us had brought along swim trunks. Who would think to bring swim trunks to a nudist colony?

Visions of Italy: The Great Cities – Rome, Florence & Naples

Nearly a year ago we were roaming Italy from Lake Como in the north to Maori in the south and all the best of everything in bewtween with our Trafalgar tour.

It was the best and we saw everything we would have wanted to see and then some. We saw The Last Supper, David, we saw Juliet's balcony, and so much more.

When you travel across Italy, each view is more incredible than the last. That explains why we took more than 1800 photos.

And now we get to relive a lot of those adventures and those good times when we sit to watch Visions of Italy: The Great Cities – Rome, Florence & Naples on Public TV beginning on Monday night in New York City on Channel 21

Lawn Labors Lightened

... In spite of hoisting 1,000 pounds here and 1,000 pounds there during the course of a recent homebound vacation, the honey-do list barely seemed to shorten regardless of the number of things I dutifully x-ed out with a thick marker.
The 1,000 pounds of top soil were lifted once into the back of the minivan, then driven cross-town where they were lugged across the lawn and slashed open in broad daylight and spread around the bushes just like in the photos from those comfy home magazines.

Perhaps there is a special section in the back of those magazines on how to fight off the creepy-crawly bugs, ants, pinchy bugs, spiders and flying no-see-ums to thusly escape with all of one's own bodily fluids in tact...

Three Biographies Of Me

This week I edited three biographies of me.

What I submit turns out, in some cases, to be a suggestion. Think of the power editors possess, with a keystroke they can eliminate huge chunks of my life. And other keystrokes can make me likable, and all based on my own words.

You might be interested to know that my poem LA POSE (Artist/Paul Delvaux) was written in a workshop conducted by Aeronwy Thomas, the daugher of Dylan and Caitlin Thomas, held at the Poetry Center at PCCC this past April.

Zamboni, the chocolate Lab, update

Zamboni turns six years old this month.

He is still the happiest dog in the world. You can see him smiling here.

He loves to go for a ride in the car. When you say balony on rye, to him, it sounds like go for a ride and he gets so excited. You know, he wants to drive. Heck, he has a license.

If only he had opposable thumbs, he could write this blog for me. You know he KNOWS he could do it.
